We had lots of Dharma dye left over from our tie dying party http://diystudio.net/2011/08/tie-dye-party/. And I came across many yards of trim that was an ecru color. As much as I loved the design of the trim, I wasn’t so keen to the colors. So after some thinking about all the extra dye AND all the extra trim, I had a brainstorm…why not dye it? It was a simple project and very fun to play with all the dye colors. And I can’t wait to use these in the studio. I’ve already planned a craft night for some girl soccer players to come embellish their soccer socks. I can’t wait to see how they fancify their socks with this trim!

Here’s how to do it…

Collect all of your supplies:

  • Rubber Gloves
  • Items to Dye
  • Scissors
  • Measuring Cup
  • Dye
  • Urea
  • Soda Ash
  • Bowl

Mix the dye with the urea according to directions.

Cut lace to the size you’d like.

Add the Soda Ash and some water into a bowl. Then add your lace and let it soak for a couple of minutes. After it’s done soaking squish out the water from the lace.

Add the lace to the dye. The longer it sits in the dye the darker the color will be.

Rinse out the dyed lace in cold water and then warm water. Then wash in the washing machine with like colors or alone (colors will bleed onto other fabric so keep it separated!) Dry normally

I can’t wait to dye more things with this dye. Dharma Dye is the best! Happy crafting!
